Explanation:

In the given circuit diagram, there is a junction point in between the two resistors. So the resistor network is connected in parallel.  

The total resistance of a parallel circuit can be calculated using the formula:

1/Rt = 1/R1 + 1/R2 + 1/R3 + ..... 1/Rn

1/Rt = 1/3 + 1/6 = 2+1 / 6 = 3/6 = 1/2 = 0.5 Ohms.

Effective resistance of the combination = 0.5 Ohms.
