Given:-

  • The equation of the line that cuts off eqwual intercepts of the co ordinate axes a passes through th point (2,3)

To find:-

  • Find the equation of a line...?

Solutions:-

The equation of a line in the intercept from is x/a + y/b = 1 ..........(i).

Here, a and b are the intercept on x and y axis respectively.

It is given that the line cuts off equal intercepts on both the axis.

  • a = b

Accordingly, equation (i). reduces to

=> x/a + y/a = 1

=> x + y = a ............(ii).

Since the given line passes through points (2, 3) equation (ii). reduces to.

=> x + y = a

=> 2 + 3 = a

=> a = 5

On substituting the value of a in equation (ii), we obtain.

=> x + y = 5

Hence, x + y = 5 is the required equation of the line.
