(y - 4)² =  -32(x - 5) is  the equation of the parabola with vertex at (5,4) and focus at (-3,4)

Given :

  • parabola whose focus at (-3,4) and vertex at  (5,4).

To Find :

  • the equation of the parabola

Solution:

Vertex    (5 , 4)

Focus   (-3 , 4)

(y - k)² = 4p(x - h)

vertex ( h , k)  and Focus ( h + p , k)

comparing with vertex and focus

=> h = 5  ,  k = 4

h + p  = - 3

=> 5 + p = -3

=> p = - 8

Hence

(y - 4)² = 4(-8)(x - 5)

=> (y - 4)² =  -32(x - 5)

(y - 4)² =  -32(x - 5) is  the equation of the parabola with vertex at (5,4) and focus at (-3,4)
