When key k is open

I is equal to 12/8 or 4/3 ampere

this is by the V=IR formula

also series resistance is added whie parallel resistance is taken reciprocally and added then again inverted

e.g. 2 &4 r parallel

1/2+1/4= 3/4. so R = 4/3
