Concepts Required :

  • Series Connection - When Resistance follow only one path it said to be Series Connection of Resistance.

  • Parallel Connection - When R Resistance follow different direction two or more it said to be Parallel Connection of Resistance.

 \tt R_{series}= R_1+ R_2 + .......R_n.

 \tt R_{parallel}=  \frac{1}{R_1}+  \frac{1}{ R_2 }+ ....... \frac{1}{ R_n}

Solution :

Current flow throw "+" terminal.

So,

For parallel,

 \begin{aligned}  \frac{1}{ R_{parallel}}&=  \frac{1}{4}  +  \frac{1}{4}  \\  &  =  \frac{2}{4}  \\ & =  \frac{1}{2}  \\ R_{parallel}&= 2. \end{aligned}

Other Parallel Connection,

 \begin{aligned}  \frac{1}{ R_{parallel}}&=  \frac{1}{5}  +  \frac{1}{20}  \\  &  =  \frac{5}{20}  \\ & =  \frac{1}{4}  \\ R_{parallel}&= 4 .\end{aligned}

Now,

Series Connection,

 \begin{aligned} R_{series}&= 2 + 2 + 4. \\ & = 8.  \end{aligned}

Therefore, the value of equivalent Resistance be 8 ohms.
