 \sin(x + 40)  =  \frac{1}{ \sqrt{2} }  \\  \sin(x + 4 0 )  =  \sin(45)  \\ x + 40 = 45 \\ x = 5

sin (x° + 40°) = 1/√2

sin 45° = 1/√2

So, x° + 40° = 45°

=> x° = 5°.
