Given : curve y=4x-7  or  y = 4x² - 7

To find :  gradient of the curve  at point (1 , - 3)

Solution:

gradient of the curve at any point = Slope of curve at that point

curve y=4x-7

This is not a curve but a  line

and a line has Same slope irrespective of the point

y = 4x - 7  has Slope = 4  ( comparing with y = mx + c)

or

dy/dx = 4  ( gradient = Slope = 4)

Let say Curve was

y = 4x² - 7

dy/dx =  8x

Gradient at  (1 , -3)  = 8(1) = 8
