Find the H.C.F and L.C.M of 220 and 284 by prime factor method.

Solution:-

First find prime factorization of 220:

220 = 2 ×2 ×5 ×11             ...(1)

Now find prime factorization of 284:

284 = 2 ×2 ×71                  ...(2)

We know that highest common factor is multiplication of lowest exponent number of prime factorization of given numbers. or H.C.F is multiplication of common number of prime factorization of given numbers. So:

H.C.F = 2 ×2 = 4

We know that lowest common multiplication is multiplication of highest exponent number of prime factorization of given numbers. So:

L.C.M = 2 ×2 ×5 ×11×71 = 15620

∴ 4 and 15620 are the H.C.F and L.C.M of 220 and 284 respectively.
