Given:

A circuit diagram

To find:

Find the heat produced in 3 ohm resistor in 2 minutes

Solution:

From given, we have, a circuit diagram consisting of 3 Ω and 6 Ω in parallel with 5 Ω and 4 Ω and overall circuit is connected to the voltage supply of 18 V.

First we need to find out the amount of current flowing through the circuit.

Equivalent resistance is given by,

1/R{eq} = 1/(3 + 6) + 1/(5 + 4)

1/R{eq} = 1/9 + 1/9 = 2/9

∴ R{eq} = 9/2 Ω

So, the current is given by,

I = V/R{eq}

I = 18 / (9/2)

∴ I = 4 A

Now we need to find the heat produced in 3 ohm resistor in 2 minutes.

we use the formula,

H = I²Rt

where,

H = heat produced

I = current

R = resistance

and t = time

H = 4² × 3 × 2

H = 16 × 6

H = 96 cal/min

∴ The heat produced in 3 ohm resistor in 2 minutes is 96 cal/min.
