Find the largest number that will divide 98, 36 and 42 leaving remainder 5 in each case.

soln: 98–5= 93

36–5= 31

41–5=36

here, a=91, b=31

use Euclid's division,

93= 31×3+0

hcf =3

now,

take a=36, b=3

36=3×12+0

hcf= 3

hence largest number is 3
