Given:

Find the least number which when divided by 12, 15, 36, and 45 leaves

in each case remainder 4.

To find:

The least number

Solution:

LCM of 12, 15, 36, and 45 using prime factorisation:

12 = 2 x 2 x 3

15 = 3 x 5

36 = 2 x 2 x 3 x 3

45 = 3 x 3 x 5

LCM of 12, 15, 36, and 45 = 2 x 2 x 3 x 3 x 5 = 180

Add the remainder 4:

=> 180 + 4 = 184

Hence, 184 is the  least number which when divided by 12, 15, 36, and 45 leaves  a remainder 4 in each case.
