So, The length of the tangent is 3.5cm

Step-by-step explanation:

Given,

Find the length of tangent a point 9.1cm away from the center of the circle whose radius is 8.4cm

A tangent to a circle is a straight line which touches the circle at only one point. This point is called the point of tang-ency. The tangent to a circle is perpendicular to the radius at the point of tang-ency.

From figure,

\angle ABO is right angle,

From \triangle ABO,

 OA^{2} =OB^{2} +AB^{2}

AB^{2}= OA^{2}-OB^{2}

AB =\sqrt{(9.1)^{2}-(8.4)^{2} }

AB=\sqrt{82.81-70.56}

AB=\sqrt{12.25}

AB=3.5

∴ The length of the tangent is 3.5cm
