Draw a perpendicular from centre O to the chord AB . so according to theorem, the chord gets bisected.

Name the point of intersection of AB and perpendicular bisector as C.

triangle BOC is a right angle triangle
OC = 3cm (distance) ( perpendicular )
OB = 5 cm ( radius) ( hypotenuse )
So,
OB2 = OC2 + BC2
25 - 9 = 16 = BC2
root 16 = 4
So,
AC = BC = 4cm
AB = 8 cm
