find the limiting reagent in
2Mg +O2 → 2MgO
if 0.5 mole of Mg and 0.5 mole of O2 is present?

please explain clearly ,its very confusing for me

Explanation:

                2Mg      +O2     →    2MgO

Given       0.5          0.5              0

For 2 mole of Mg react with 1 mole of 02

For 0.5 mole Mg ,

O2 = 1/2 x 0.5 =0.25 mole

               2Mg      +O2     →    2MgO

Rea           0.5          0.25

So we get 0.25 mole of O2 extra after the reaction .

Therefore O2 is the Excess and Mg is the limiting
