Answer:

for a 1.0M solution of NaOH to have a density of 1.5g/mL. According to my reference, the density of 1.0M NaOH is 1.05g/mL. In order to submit a useful answer I will work with density = 1.05g/mL.

A 1.0M solution of NaOH = 40g NaOH in 1000mL of solution

This is 4.0g NaOH in 100mL of solution.

Because density = 1.05g/mL

Solution =  4g NaOH in 105g solution.

Mass of solute=40 g

Mass of solution=150 g.

Given,

Molarity of the solution=1 M

Volume of the solution=100 ml

Density of the solution=1.5 g/ml.

To find,

mass of solute and solution.

Solution:

1 M NaOH solution means that 1 mole of NaOH is present in the solution.

Number of moles=Given mass/Molar mass

1=Mass/40               (Molar mass of NaOH=40 g)

Mass=40x1

Mass of NaOH=40 g.

Density=Mass/Volume

1.5=mass/100

Mass=150 g.

The mass of solute and solution is 40 g and 150 g respectively.
