Whole number : In mathematics, whole numbers are the set of  all positive integers or natural numbers including 0. For example: $0,1,2,3, etc.$

Formula used for finding means is,

$Mean =\frac{Sum \ of\ all\ the\ favorable\ outcomes}{Number\ of\ observations}$

Here favorable observations are first n whole numbers,

$mean=\frac{0+1+2+3+4+5+\_+\_+\_+n}{n+1}$

So, sum of favorable out come will be same as the sum of first n natural number , but total number of observation will be increased by 1, because 0 is also included in it.

Sum of natural number is $\frac{n\times(n+1)}{2}$.

Hence mean of 1st n whole numbers is $[\frac{ \frac{n(n+1)}{2} }{n+1}]=\frac{n}{2}$.

Hence required mean is $\frac{n}{2}$.
