Plants are always compared to animals as both of them are living organisms and need oxygen to respire.

However, plants do not need to move around for food like animals do as they make their own food. The process by which they make their own food is photosynthesis.

Photosynthesis requires, light for energy, carbon from carbon dioxide, water and minerals from the soil. All these things are made possible by a plants huge structure. Leaves are thin, flat and contain chlorophyll. This structure of a leave gives maximum absorption of light and carbon dioxide.

The root hair on the other hand increase surface area to volume ratio for more absorption of water and mineral ions by osmosis.

This is why plants do not migrate as they have a highly maintained structure which helps them out while making their own food.

It is the availability of resources that does not allows the plants to move from one place to another for their  basic needs. The basic needs includes

Carbon dioxide : Enough carbon dioxide is present in the environment to fulfill the required amount needed for photosynthesis

Oxygen : Oxygen is also present in the environment and in water for respiration of plants. They respire and give off carbon dioxide that is used in the process of photosynthesis during day time

Nutrients: Plants require macro and micro nutrients for their various metabolic activities and these nutrients can be obtained simply from the soil

Water: The most important thing needed for the survival of plants which they obtain from soil

Sunlight: Plants trap light from sun to make their own food i.e through photosynthesis

Hence from all the above requirement it is quite clear that all the basic needs of the plants are fulfilled  either from soil or from environment
