let the mean proportion be x

16:x::x:4
16/x=x/4
16*4=x*x
64=x^2
x^2=64
x=root 64
x=8

hence,
the mean proportion is 8.

Let a = 4
C = 16
→ b^2 = ac
→ = 4 x 16
→ b^2 = 64
→ b = root 64
→ b = 8
→ the mean proportional is 8
