x = 9

Median: Denoting or relating to a value or quantity lying at the midpoint of a frequency distribution of observed values or quantities, such that there is an equal probability of falling above or below it.

Basically, it means the middle point in a set of data.

So if the middle number in this set of data:

2, 3, 7, x, 10, 15

is 8, then “x” and 7 have to average to 8 because they are the middle most numbers in this set.

So, we can average 7 and “x” to 8 by adding them together and then dividing by 2.

(7 + x)/2 = 8

Then we multiply the both sides by 2 to get rid of the fraction.

2(7 + x)/2 = 2(8)

7 + x = 16

Then we subtract 7 from both sides to find “x”.

7 + x - 7 = 16 - 7

x = 9
