so lets arrange the given numbers in ascending order

20,23,27,36,41,45,50,55.

median of odd number of numbers = ( n + 1 ) / 2 nd term

median of even number of numbers = avg. of  n/2 nd term and n/2 + 1 term

there are 8 numbers and 8 is even.

so median of the numbers given is avg of 4th and 5th terms i.e. avg of 36 and 41

= ( 36 + 41 ) / 2

= 77/2

= 36.5
