Since n is even, the median is given by [(n/2) th observation + (n/2 + 1) th observation] /2

n/2 th observation = 74/2 = 36 th observation

13 + 7 + 8 + 9 = 37, so the 36 th observation lies in the table when x in the table is = 6

(n/2 th + 1) th observation = 37 th observation

13 + 7 + 8 + 9 = 37, so the 37 th observation lies in the table when x in the table is = 6

=> Median = ( 6 + 6 ) / 2

= 12/2
