Given : Observations :31, 38, 27, 28, 36, 25, 35, 40

Arranging given numbers in ascending order:

25 , 27 , 28 , 31 , 35 , 36 , 38 , 40

Number of observations, (n) = 8 (even)

Median = ½[value of (n/2)th + (n/2 +1)th observations]

Median = ½ [value of (8/2 th + (8/2 + 1 th) observations]

Median = ½ [value of (4th + 5th) observations]

Median = (31 + 35)/2

Median =  66/2 th

Median = 33

Hence, the median of the given data is 33.
