Question :- Find the Median of the scores 5, 8, 14, 16, 19 and 20 ?

Concept Used :-

The median of set of data is the middlemost number in the set. The median is also the number that is halfway into the set. To find the median the data should first be arrange in order

from the least greatest.

  • If there is an odd number of terms, the median is the centre term = (n+1)/2th term.
  • If there is an even number of terms, add the two middle terms and divide by 2 = {(n/2term)+(n/2+1)term}/2.

Solution :-

Arranging in ascending order we get

= 5, 8, 14, 16, 19, 20 = 6 terms = Even

number of terms.

  • n = 6

So,

Median = {(n/2 term)+(n/2+1)term}/2

Median = {(6/2 term)+(6/2+1)term}/2

Median = {3rd term + (3+1) term}/2

Median = {3rd term + 4th term }/2

Median = (14+16)/2

Median = 30/2

Median = 15

Hence, Median of scores will be 15.
