ANSWER:

The missing term in 25,17,6; 38,18,8; 89,16,? is 7.

SOLUTION:

Given, series of terms are 25, 17, 6; 38, 18, 8; 89, 16, ?

We have to find the missing term of above given series.

We have series which divided into three units as.

25, 17, 6;

38, 18, 8;

89, 16, ?

Now, after a keen observation. We can say that:

Third term is half of the sum of digits of the number, which is obtained by subtracting the first term from square of the second term.

\begin{array}{l}{\text { i.e. } 17^{2}-25=289-25=264, \text { sum of digits }=2+6+4=12, \text { half of sum }} \\ {\text { of digits }=\frac{12}{2}=6, \text { which is } 3_{}^{\text {rd }} \text { term }}\end{array}

Now, let us see for 2nd row.

\begin{array}{l}{18^{2}-38=324-38=286, \text { sum of digits }=2+8+6=16, \text { half of sum of }} \\ {\text { digits }=\frac{16}{2}=8, \text { which is } 3^{\text {rd }} \text { term }}\end{array}

Now, let us apply the same process for third row,

\begin{array}{l}{16^{2}-89=256-89=167, \text { sum of digits }=1+6+7=14, \text { half of sum of }} \\ {\text { digits }=\frac{14}{2}=7, \text { which will be } 3_{\text { }}^{\text {rd }} \text { term. }}\end{array}

Hence, the missing term is 7.
