In this question we need to get the effective resistance. For this to happen we need to know the formulas for getting the effective resistance when the resistors are in series and when they are in parallel.
When in parallel:
E. R=1/R1 + 1/R2
When in series:
R1 + R2
We then use the ohms formula to get current.
I=V/R
The total effective resistance =3.6 ohms
The total voltage=12
I=12/3.6=3.333A
