QUESTION⤵️

Find the new pressure developed on a surface if force and area of contact both be doubled a) P1 = P2 b) P1 = P2/2 c) P1 = 2P2 d) P2 = 4P1

ANSWER ⤵️

Let the old pressure be P1 and new pressure be P2.

––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––

Let the old force be F1 and new force be F2= 2F1

––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––

Let the old area be A1 and new area be A2= 2A1

––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––

We knew that,

P = \frac{F}{A}

Where P is pressure, F is force and A is the area where pressure is applied

#############################

Case 1

P = P1

F = F1

A = A1

P1 = F1/A1

Case 2

P = P2

F = F2

A = A2

P2 = F2/A2

But as it is said that F2 = 2F1 and A2 = 2A1

So,

P2 = (2F1/2A1)

==> P2 = F1/F2

But F1/F2 = P1

So,

P2 = P1
