a= 2, d= 5-2 =3, n=n
an = a+ (n-1)d=2+(n-1)3 = 2+3n-3=3n-1
therefore the nth term of A. P. is 3n-1.

The nth term of the AP 2 , 5 , 8 is 3n - 1

Given :

The sequence 2 , 5 , 8

To find :

The nth term of the AP

Solution :

Concept :

If in an arithmetic progression

First term = a

Common difference = d

Then nth term of the AP

= a + ( n - 1 )d

Solution :

Step 1 of 3 :

Write down the given AP

Here the given AP is 2 , 5 , 8

This is an arithmetic progression

Step 2 of 3 :

Write down first term and common difference

The arithmetic AP is 2 , 5 , 8

First term = a = 2

Common Difference = d = 5 - 2 = 3

Step 3 of 3 :

Find the nth term of the AP

Then nth term of the AP

= a + ( n - 1 )d

= 2 + ( n - 1 ) × 3

= 2 + 3n - 3

= 3n - 1
