Since ,we don't know the numbers so,let us assume some Variable

let the number be 'x' which when added to the numerator and denominator to the ratio 11:23 makes it equal to 4:7

According to the question:

=> 11+x/23+x= 4/7

Now,cross multiply to both sides

=> 7(11+x) = 4(23+x)

expanding the terms and opening the brackets

=>77+7x= 92+4x

make like terms together

=> 7x-4x= 92-77

=> 3x= 15

Divide both sides by 3 [ isolate x ]

=> x= 5

Hence, 5 should be added

Check:

=> 11+5/23+5

= 16/28= 8/14= 4/7
