Given :

→ Length of a rectangular land = 12 × 1/2 m

→ Breadth of a rectangular land = 5 × 1/5 m

To find :

→ Perimeter of rectangular land

→ Area of rectangular land

→ Area of the land left unused if 4 small square beds of side 1 m are made in the centre

Solution :

Dimensions of the rectangular land :

→ Length of the rectangular land = 12 × 1/2 = 6 m

→ Breadth of the rectangular land = 5 × 1/5 = 1 m

Calculating the perimeter of the rectangular land :

Using formula,

  • Perimeter of rectangle = 2(l + b)

where,

l denotes the length

b denotes the breadth

Substituting the given values :

→ Perimeter of the rectangular land = 2(6 + 1)

→ Perimeter of the rectanglular land = 2(7)

→ Perimeter of the rectanglular land = 14

Perimeter of the rectangular garden = 14 m

Calculating the area of the rectangular land :

Using formula,

  • Area of rectangle = l × b

Substituting the given values :

→ Area of the rectangular land = 6 × 1

→ Area of the rectangular land = 6

Area of the rectangular land = 6 m²

Now, calculating the area of the land is left unused :

Using formula,

  • Area of square = side²

We have,

  • side of the square bed = 1 m

Substituting the given value :

→ Area of the square bed = 1²

→ Area of the square bed = 1

Area of the square bed = 1 m²

There are total 4 small square beds which are made at the centre of the rectangular piece of land.

So, multiply the area of one square bed by total number of square beds.

→ Area of one square bed = 1 m²

Area of four square beds = 1 × 4 = 4 m²

Area of the land which is left unused :

→ Area of land left unused = Area of the rectanglular land - Area of sqaure beds

→ Area of land left unused = 6 - 1

→ Area of land left unused = 5

Area of the land left unused = 5 m²

Therefore,

Perimeter of the rectangular land = 14 m

Area of the rectangular land = 6 m²

Area of the land left unused if 4 small square beds of side 1 m are made in the centre = 5 m²
