The perpendicular components of a force of 50N making an angle of 30° with an x-axis is 25 N.

Given: A force of 50 N making an angle of 30° with the x-axis.

To Find: The perpendicular components of a force.
Solution:

  • We know that the vertical component of a vector which is making an angle with the x-axis can be determined by the formula,

        Perpendicular component = A sin Ф                               .....(1)

where A = a vector, Ф = angle made by vector A with the x-axis

Coming to the numerical, we are given that force (F) = 50 N, Ф = 30°,

So, putting the respective values in (1), we get;

        Perpendicular component = A sin Ф

   ⇒   Perpendicular component = 50 sin 30°

   ⇒    Perpendicular component = ( 50 × 1/2 ) N

                                                        = 25 N

Hence, the perpendicular components of a force of 50N making an angle of 30° with an x-axis is 25 N.
