Question :- Find the point on the X - axis which is equidistant from (2,-5) & (-2,9).

Solution :-

(2,5) __________________________(-2,9)

Let the given points are A(2,-5) ,B(-2,9) & mid point be P (X ,0) , we have to find the point on X - axis which is equivalent from the given points.

By using Distance Formula :-

√(x2 - x1)² +(y2 - y1)²

Here x1 = 2 & x2 = -2

y1 = -5 & y2 = 9

Putting Values:

AP = AB

√(X + 2)² + (0 -9)² = √( x- 2)² + (0 + 5)²

Squaring both sides

x² + 4 + 4x +81 = x²+ 4 -4x + 25

=> 8x = -56

=> X = -7

So the points are (0,-7) on the X - axis which is equidistant from (2,-5) &(-2,9).
