Hi ,
Let P ( x , 0 ) is a point which is equidistant
from A( -2 , - 5 ) and B ( 2 , -3 ) .
Now ,
AP = BP
AP² = BP²
[ x - ( -2 ) ]² + [ 0 - ( - 5 ) ]² = (x - 2)² + [0 - ( - 3 )]²
( x + 2 )² + 5² = ( x - 2 )² + 3²
x² + 4x + 4 + 25 = x² - 4x + 4 + 9
4x + 29 = -4x + 13
4x + 4x = 13 - 29
8x = -16
x = -16/8
x = -2
Therefore ,
Required number = ( x , 0 ) = ( -2 , 0 )
I hope this helps you.
