Ancient mathematicians invented the concept of a line or straight line for the purpose of representing straight objects with minimal breadth and depth in geometry. These items, which are frequently represented by two points or identified by a single letter, are idealised by lines.

The mathematical definition:

A line has length but no width, making it a one-dimensional figure. A line is made up of a collection of points that can be stretched indefinitely in opposing directions.

There are three solution of lines:

  1. No solution: This is when the lines are parallel and do not intersect anywhere. x=3,\ x=5 lines have no solution. (Pic 1)
  2. Single solution: This is when the lines intersect. Because the coordinate pair identifying each point on a graph represents a solution to its corresponding equation, if a system of linear equations has a solution, that solution corresponds to the intersection point of the two lines. Lines  x=3,\ y=6  intersect at only one point (3,6), so has a unique solution. (Pic 2)
  3. Infinite solutions: This happens when the lines overlap. Lines3x+4y=7, 6x+8y=14 have infinite solutions. (Pic 3)
