find the ratio in which (-1,y) divides the line joining (-3,10) and (6,-8)

Hii friend,


Let the given points are P (-1,Y) , A(-3,10) and B(6,-8).


Let the required ratio be K:1

Then by sectional formula coordinates of point P are,


P{6K+(-3)/K+1 ,‌‍ -8K + 10/K+1)


But the coordinates of point P is (-1,Y)

THEREFORE,


(6K-3/K+1) = -1

6K -3 = -1(K+1)

6K -3 = -K -1

6K +K = -1+3

7K = 2

K = 2/7.


Hence,

The required ratio is 2:7.
