let p(x,0) be the pt on x axis divide the line segment joining A(1,-5) and B(-4,5) in the ratio k:1

now

coordinates of p= [(-4k+1)/(k+1),(5k

-5)/(k+1)]

(x,0) = [(-4k+1)/(k+1),(5k-5)/(k+1)]

now taking

0 = (5k-5)/(k+1)

0 = 5k-5

-5k= -5

k= 1

there the ratio is 1:1

now taking

x= [(-4k+1)/(k+1)]................(1)

putting k=1 in equation (1)

x = [(-4*1+1)/(1+1)]

x = [(-4+1)/2]

x= -3/2

therefore the coordinates of p (-3/2,0)..............

Hope this will help you ..........
