Let the y-axis divides the line segment joining points (5,-6) and (-1,-4) in ratio k:1 and point of intersection (0,y)

Using Section formula,
( \frac{ - 1k + 5}{k + 1} coma  \frac{ - 4k + ( - 6)}{k + 1} ) = (0 \: coma \: y)
(-k+5)/(k+1) = 0
-k+5 =0
k = 5
Hence the y-axis divides the line segment joining points (5,-6) and (-1,-4) in ratio 5:1

Since y = (-4k-6)/(k+1)
y = (-20-6)/(5+1)
y = -26/6
y = -13/3
Hence point of intersection is (0, -13/3)
hope it helps you
