By remainder therom :

x - 1 = 0 \\ x = 1 \\  \\ p(x) = 4 {x}^{3}  - 3x - 2 \\ p(1) = 4 ({1})^{3}  - 3(1) - 2 \\ p(1) = 4 - 3 - 2 \\ p(1) = 1 - 2 \\ p(1) =  - 1
