x² - 1 = 3x

x² - 3x - 1 = 0

By quadratic formula,

D, Discriminant = b² - 4ac

D = ( 3) ²- 4 × 1 × 1 = 9 - 4 = 5

x =[ - b ±√D ]/ 2a

x = ( 3 ± √5 ) /2
