Question

Find the sides of an equilateral triangle whose perimeter is

(i) 360 m

(ii) 10.726 m

Answer

(i) 360 m

Given that

Perimeter = 360 m

To find

The sides = ?

As we know

All the sides of an equilateral triangle are equal.

The perimeter is the sum of all the sides.

Assumption

Let x be the unknown equal sides.

Then, x + x + x = 360 m

3x = 360 m

x =  \frac{360}{3}

x =  \frac{\cancel{360}}{\cancel{3}}

x = 120.

But, x = sides.

Therefore, sides are of length 120 m.

(ii) 10.726 m

Given that,

Perimeter = 10.726 m

To find

The sides = ?

Assumption

Let x be the unknown equal sides.

Then, x + x + x = 10.726 m

3x = 10.726 m

x =  \frac{10.726}{3}

x =  \frac{\cancel{10.726}}{\cancel{3}}

x = 3.60 (approximately)

But, x = sides.

Therefore, sides are of length 3.60 m.
