Given:

First discount-20%

Second discount-10%

To Find:

Single equivalent discount

Solution:

Let the marked price of an article be ₹100.

Price after the first discount =₹(100-20)=₹80.

Second discount on it= 10% of ₹80

=₹(80\times \dfrac{10}{100})

=₹8

Price after the second discount=₹(80-8)=₹72

Net selling price=₹72

Single equivalent discount to two successive  discounts=(100-72)%=28%

∴Single equivalent discount=28%
