Step-by-step explanation:

1.To find the square root of a decimal number we put bars on the integral part ( i.e 51) of the number in usual manner and place bars on the decimal part ( i.e 84) on every pair of digits beginning with the first decimal place.

2.Now proceed in same manner as long division method .The left most bar is on 51, take 7 as the divisor and 51 as dividend and get the remainder .

3. The remainder is 2 write the number under the next bar that is 84 to the right of the remainder to get 284 .

4.Double the divisor and enter a blank on its right .

5.Since 84 is the decimal part put a decimal point in the quotient.As 142 × 2= 284 ,the new digit is 2 and get its remainder.

6.Remainder =0 , therefore 51.84 =7.2
