Find the Total Number of Family
In a family, the father takes 1/4 of the cake and he had three times as much as of the other family member had. Find the total member of family?

Consider the cake to be in a circular shape. As per the problem statement, the father ate 1/4th, that means one quarter. It also states that he ate three times as much as any one else. So we divide this quarter into 3 parts and similarly divide the rest of the circle in equal parts. You will notice that there are a total of 12 parts.

Now consider that everyone ate one part each, and dad ate 3 parts. You will find that the total number of people in the house comes out to 10. Please refer to the attached diagram for better understanding.
