According to question =
x^2 +(x+1)^2=85
x^2 + (x^2+1+2x) =85 {(a+b)^2=a^2+b^2+2ab}
2x^2+2x+1-85=0
2x^2+2x-84=0
x^2+x-42=0
x^2+7x-6x-42=0
x(x+7) -6(x+7)=0
(x+7) (x-6)=0
x=-7 , x=6
