so by given condition =

x + y=12

and second condition is given that =

xy=35

so x=35/y

substituting x value in the 1st condition we get

35/y+y=12

mutilating by y

35+y^2=12y

so we get

y^2-12y+35=0

y^2-7y-5y+35=0

y (y-7)-5 (y-7)=0

so y =7 or y=5

so the two numbers are 7 and 5
