Character sketch of Helen Keller.

Helen Keller was born on 27 June,1880 to Arthur.H.Keller and Kate Adams Keller in Tuscombia , a small town in northern Alabama.

The first few chapters of her autobiography tells about her family background, childhood influential people and sickness that left her crippled for sometime.

She describes herself as a healthy normal child with vigour and vitality.

She narrates how she was loved by her family.

She was fascinated by nature and enjoyed playing in the family garden.

Suddenly she was attacked by a fatal sickness that left her blind and deaf at that very tender age of nineteen months.

After that she tried to communicate with others using some sign language.

Her loving mother was able to understand her.

Even after being blind Helen remained very active. With her companion Martha Washington she used to move around the house.

Sometimes she felt desperate when she was unable to communicate with others.

She tried to adjust with her disabilities and live a life of a normal child of her age.

Right from her childhood she remained as a strong willed person.

When she was unable to communicate she was frustrated.

She expressed her longing in the following words"LIGHT!GIVE ME LIGHT!WAS THE WORDLESS CRY OF MY SOUL ".

Anne Sullivan led her to the vast ocean of knowledge by unveiling the mystery of language to her.
