Given

  • A polynomial x²-4x²+ax+b
  • and have factor x-2 and X+1

To find

  • Value of a and b

Solution

  • From the remainder Therom

let g(X) = x-2 and x-1

g(X)=0

=>X=2

p(X) =x²-4x²+ax+b

=>p(2) = 4-16+2a+b

=>0=2a+b-12

=>2a+b = 12. ---------> (1)

Let g(X) =1

p(1) = 1-4+a+b

=>0=a+b-3

=>a+b=3 -------> (2)

Now From Equation (1) and (2)

a+b = 3

2a+b =12

_______

a=9

Now putting the value of a in Equation 1

9+b =3

b = -6
