Given : a+b=a- b

To find :    value of a and the value of b for which a+b=a- b is a true statement.

Solution:

a+b=a- b

cancelling a from both sides

=> b = - b

=> 2b = 0

=> b = 0

Hence value of  b = 0

a + 0 = a - 0

=> a = a

which is always true

hence a ∈ R

value of  b = 0 and a ∈ R
