(x + a) is a factor of f(x). [x = -a]

When dividing, remainder is 0.

So, f(-a) = 0

(-a)³ + a(-a)² + a + 4 = 0

-a³ + a³ + a + 4 = 0

a + 4 = 0

a = -4
