Let f ( x ) = x³ - a² x + x + 2

Given :

x - a is a factor of f ( x )

Factor Theorem :

x - a = 0

= > x = a

Put this in f ( x )

f ( x ) = 0

= > x³ - a² x + x + 2 = 0

= > a³ - a² × a + a + 2 = 0

= > a³ - a³ + a + 2 = 0

= > 0 + a + 2 = 0

= > a = 0 - 2

= > a = - 2

\underline{\mathfrak{ANSWER}}

\boxed{a=-2}

Answer:

a=-2

Step-by-step explanation:

x^3-a^2x+x+2

=a^3-a^3+a+2=0

=a+2=0

=a=-2
