since g(x) is a factor of p(x) ,
Root of g(x)
X+1= 0
x=-1

So,
p(-1)= (-1)(-1) + a(-1) +2
= 1-a+2
=3-a

Now since g(x) is a factor of p(x),
3-a=0
-a=-3
Hence, a=3
